Terrix® RN-LF 5
levelling render
Terrix® RN-LF 5 is a versatile levelling coat designed primarily for use on internal block walls, lightweight concrete, and brick walls. Due to its aggregate size of 0.5mm, it is not recommended for external applications.
The product enhances the strength and stability of the substrate, significantly reducing the risk of cracking. It can be applied as a base coat (with reinforcing mesh) or as a top coat, providing an ideal surface for finishing plasters and paint coatings in interior settings.
Terrix® RN-LF 5 is particularly recommended as a levelling coat before the application of Terrix® PL plasters. When mixed with water, the product transforms into an easily workable mass with a plastic consistency, which hardens to form an aesthetically pleasing finishing layer. With proper finishing techniques, a “felt” texture can be achieved, which is suitable for the direct application of paint coatings without the need for levelling compounds such as Terrix® PL-SX-S.
The mortar is designed for application on seasoned mineral substrates.
Benefits
Main properties:
- High Compressive Strength: provides a durable and robust base layer with superior compressive strength;
- High Resistance to Shrinkage Cracks: Formulated to resist shrinkage, minimising the risk of crack formation during curing.
- Easy to Apply: Offers excellent workability, making the application process straightforward and efficient.
- Hydrophobic and Vapour-Permeable: Combines water-repellent properties with high vapour permeability, allowing moisture to escape while preventing water ingress.
- Suitable for Spray Application: Designed for easy and efficient application using mechanical spray equipment.
- Micro Glass Fibre Reinforcement: Enhanced with microglass fibres to improve tensile strength and crack resistance.
- Compatible with Reinforcing Mesh: Suitable for use with reinforcing mesh to further strengthen the base coat layer.
- White Cement-Based: Utilises white cement, ensuring a bright finish that enhances the aesthetics of the final render, especially under light-coloured finishes.

Application
Substrate preparation:
Ensure the substrate is sound, clean, and free from cracks, delaminations, and any biological or chemical efflorescence. The surface must be degreased, even, dry, and free from algae or fungal growth. If microbial contamination is present, clean the substrate using a power washer, then apply a biocide solution according to the product manual to effectively remove the contamination.
All loose or non-adherent layers, such as flaking render or peeling paint, must be thoroughly removed. Clean and degrease old or dirty substrates with water and an appropriate cleaning agent. Before applying the levelling compound, consult the relevant product manuals and data sheets for specific guidance.
Priming:
For absorbent substrates, apply Terrix® PR-UA as a primer before using the product. Under optimal conditions (air temperature of +20°C and relative humidity of 55%), the binding time of the primer is approximately 3 hours. Once the primer has fully dried, Terrix® RN-LF 5 can be applied.
Preparation:
Use a container with a measured amount of fresh water (7 l per 25kg of mortar), pour the entire package content, and mix thoroughly with a mixer /low-speed drill with a basket mixer until homogeneous and lump-free. Leave for approx—10 minutes to initiate a chemical reaction. Immediately before use, mix thoroughly again. The prepared mixture remains workable for approximately 2 hours, depending on the temperature and humidity. If needed, add a small amount of clean water (up to 0.1 litres per 20 kg of product) to adjust the consistency. The exact amount of added water may vary depending on the substrate type, weather conditions, and application methods.
CAUTION: Both over-mixing and under-mixing can result in excessive aeration of the mortar, which may lead to a reduction in its strength properties.
Application method:
Apply the mortar evenly onto the substrate using a steel trowel, with a layer thickness ranging from 1 to 5 mm. If necessary, the mortar can be applied in multiple layers. The final layer should be smoothed with a sponge or felt pad. The timing for smoothing the mortar depends on the substrate’s absorbency, layer thickness, and drying conditions.
Surface: The applied mortar is suitable for further processing after approximately 24 hours. Additional layers of the product can only be applied after the previous layer has initially been set and hardened, which typically requires a minimum of 24 hours.
At wall joints, where different building materials meet, and in areas with grooves or indentations, a layer of reinforcing mesh (145 ÷ 165 g/m²) should be embedded. Reinforcing mesh patches should be used around all openings and system junctions. Refer to the detailed drawings for guidance. For ease of application, reinforcing mesh may also be used throughout the surface.
Warning:
The product is alkaline and must be kept away from the eyes and skin. Appropriate protective clothing, including gloves and eyewear, should be worn during application. In the event of eye contact, rinse thoroughly with plenty of water and seek medical attention if irritation persists.
Drying:
The typical curing time is approximately 1 mm of product thickness per day under conditions of 15°C and 55% relative humidity.
Note: Drying time may be extended in low temperatures or high relative humidity. To protect the top coat from adverse weather conditions, cover the scaffolding with protective netting or tarpaulin. Avoid application in direct sunlight or during strong winds.
Useful hints:
The final finish may vary depending on the substrate type. For non-uniform substrates and block walls with deep grooves, it is recommended to first skim the entire surface. The “wet-on-wet” method should be applied for best results. Clean all tools with water immediately after completing the work.
