polymer-silicate render
for spray application

A modern polymer-silicate thin-coat render designed for spray application. Terrix® RD-PS-S 1.5 is based on innovative Swiss-patented technology that modifies potassium water glass to form a polymer-silicate binder. The polymer-silicate render combines the advantages of traditional silicate renders, widely used in heritage and historic building renovation, with improved application properties.
Due to its mineral character and low surface electrostatic charge, the product offers very high resistance to weathering and soiling. Terrix® RD-PS-S 1.5 bonds
to the substrate through a chemical reaction, reducing the risk of flaking or delamination.
The render also offers high resistance to microbial contamination, including algae growth, and to efflorescence. Terrix® RD-PS-S 1.5 is particularly suitable
for coastal areas and other locations exposed to demanding weather conditions.
Terrix® RD-PS-S 1.5 can be used as part of the following systems:
• EWI systems based on EPS, PUR or mineral wool
• anti-crack renovation render systems
• two-coat render systems
• cavity-free timber-frame systems.
Terrix® RD-PS-S 1.5 is suitable for both new-build and refurbishment applications. It may be applied to mineral substrates, including concrete, cement
and cement-lime renders, as well as substrates coated with sound, well-bonded synthetic coatings.
Benefits
Benefits to the customer:
- No flaking or cracking as Terrix® RD-PS-S paints bond to the substrate by chemical reaction. Acrylic and silicone render to create a film on top of a substrate, which can lead to peeling or cracking.
- High resistance to elements – the render is fully suitable for coastal application.
- Very high resistance to dirt- not achievable by any organic-based renders on the market (all acrylics and silicone even with self-clean effect) it is due to its mineral formulation and, therefore, lack of surface electrostatics. The dust won’t be attracted to the render.
- Flame retardancy due to the lack of organic components in the render and pigments used for colouring. In contrast to most renders on the market, Terrix® RD-PS-S provides protection against the spread of flame. The mineral characteristic of the product makes it fully incombustible.
- Very high resistance to yellowing – Built-in UV blockers to maintain the original look of the render.
- Natural algae resistance – Increased pH level (high alkalinity) delivers natural and long-lasting protection. Other products on the market are protected by the addition of biocides, which have a limited lifespan (5-6 years).
- Very low water absorption – The product is more resistant for winter when water freezes and, by expanding, causes system failures.
- Spot repairs – the product can be easily spot repaired without leaving any visible patches, which is usually impossible to achieve with hand-applied renders on the market.
- Low maintenance cost – due to render prosperities and application method, the cost of maintenance is usually many times lower than other products.
Benefits to the applicator:
- Spray application – up to 5 times faster than a traditional application.
- Decreased wash-off risk – due to the partly chemical curing process. Acrylic and silicon renders drying by evaporation only. During winter time, that process may be very long and lead to wash-offs even after a few weeks after application.
- Easy spot repairs – effortless snagging and seamless spot repairs – the product consistency and formulation allow for simple snagging/spot repairs without the need to redo the entire wall.
- Can be applied on not fully dry substrates – due to the polymer-silicate prosperities of the product, it is fully vapour permeable and therefore, the render can be used for difficult applications like old damp buildings or new builds where walls and renders are still wet, and use of silicone or acrylic renders would not be possible.

Packaging: 20 kg plastic bucket;
Storage: store in the tightly sealed, original packaging in a cool area, ensuring protection against frost. Opened packaging should be tightly closed and used as quickly as possible;
Shelf life: 18 months from the date of production (factory-sealed packaging).
CAUTION: Keep the product out of reach of children.
Aplication
Substrate preparation:
Apply to a sound, clean, even, dry and degreased substrate, free from cracks, delamination, biological contamination and chemical efflorescence. The substrate must be free from algae and fungal growth. Where microbial contamination is present, clean the substrate with a power washer and apply a suitable biocidal preparation in accordance with the product instructions. Remove any loose or non-adherent layers, such as loose render or flaking paint coatings. Wash and degrease old and/or dirty substrates with water and a suitable cleaning agent.
Note:
Fresh concrete, cement and cement-lime renders require a minimum curing period of 4 weeks before application.

Priming:
The substrate should be primed with Terrix® PR-PS-R before applying the render.
The primer must be completely dry before applying the render, normally after approx. 24 hours.
It is recommended to use a primer in the same colour as the finish coat.
Preparation:
The packaging contains a ready-to-use product. Before application, particularly after prolonged storage, thoroughly mix the product using a low-speed mixer fitted with a basket stirrer until
a smooth, homogeneous consistency is obtained. Further mixing is not recommended as it may result in excessive product aeration.
If required, add a small amount of clean water
(maximum 0.1 L per 20 kg of the product). The quantity of added water may vary for different substrate types, weather conditions and application methods.
Application method:
Apply the render to the substrate using a pneumatic spraying device at a working pressure
of 3–4 atmospheres and with a nozzle diameter of 5–6 mm.
During spraying, hold the gun perpendicular to the substrate at a distance of 0.4–0.6 m.
Drying:
The typical setting time is approximately 24 hours at +20 °C and 55 % RH.
NOTE:
Drying time may be longer due to low temperatures and high relative humidity.
To ensure proper drying, protect the freshly applied finish coat from precipitation and condensation.
Important: Do not apply in rain or if rain is expected within 24 hours.
Useful hints:
The final appearance may vary depending on the substrate. On non-uniform substrates, it is recommended to skim the entire surface first with a suitable base coat mortar. Use material from the same production batch on each continuous surface or architectural element to avoid colour differences. Apply using the wet-on-wet method.
Apply only in dry weather at air and substrate temperatures between +5 °C and +25 °C.
Do not apply in direct sunlight or during strong winds. Protect the freshly applied finish coat from adverse weather conditions using suitable protective netting or tarpaulins on the scaffolding.
