TERRIX® AD-BR
Brick Slip Adhesive for Fixing and Pointing
for Brick Effect System BES

Terrix® AD-BR is a ready-to-use, water-based dispersion adhesive for fixing and pointing Terrix® brick slips in the TERRIX® BES Brick Effect System. The product is used both to bond the slips and to point the joints, so the selected product colour determines the final joint colour. It offers good workability, high adhesion and retained flexibility after drying.

It is intended for use on sound, dry, and properly prepared substrates, including mineral substrates such as concrete, cement, and cement-lime renders, and gypsum plasters, as well as compatible boards such as plasterboard, cement boards, and OSB, subject to the system specification.

BES system overview (informative)
Terrix® AD-BR is an integral component of the TERRIX® BES Brick Effect System, a non-load-bearing external brick-effect cladding system intended for use within Terrix ERS and EWI systems. The system does not perform any structural function and does not contribute to the load-bearing capacity or stability of the wall assembly.

When properly designed, detailed and installed, the system provides an additional weather-resistant outer layer while maintaining the vapour-permeable character of the wall build-up.

The complete TERRIX® BES Brick Effect System is classified A2-s1,d0 for reaction to fire in accordance with EN 13501-1, based on classification report FIRES-CR-169-24-AURS.
This classification applies to the complete BES system only.

Benefits

Main properties:

  • Modern system design: factory-made components designed for consistent appearance and predictable performance;
  • Authentic brick appearance: replicates the look of traditional brickwork through brick slips, colour and jointing finish;
  • Fire performance: depends on the complete system build-up. Refer to the relevant fire classification/test report for the approved system;
  • Weather-resistant and vapour-permeable: helps protect the façade against rain while allowing water vapour diffusion when correctly detailed and applied;
  • Strong adhesion to suitable substrates: provides a durable bond when applied
to correctly prepared, sound and dry substrates;
  • Engineered system with traditional finishing: combines system components
with conventional jointing techniques;
  • Professional brick slip cladding solution for new build and refurbishment.

Application

Substrate preparation:

The substrate must be sound, clean, dry and even. Remove dust, grease and loose
or poorly bonded layers. Repair cracks, defects and areas of delamination before application. Highly absorbent substrates should be primed with TERRIX® PR-BR
and allowed to dry (min. 24 h).

Preparation:

The product is supplied ready to use. Mix thoroughly with a mixing paddle before use.

Application method:

Terrix® AD-BR is supplied ready to use and is a component of the TERRIX® BES Brick Effect System. Mix thoroughly before use to ensure uniform consistency.

Apply the adhesive with a 4 × 4 mm notched trowel (coat thickness approx. 1.5–2.0 mm). Apply the adhesive evenly and control the amount applied to ensure proper coverage and bonding of the brick slips.

Adjust the size of the working area to ambient conditions. To prevent premature drying and surface skinning, limit application to no more than 1 m² at a time and apply only
as much material as can be processed within approx. 10 minutes. Do not apply adhesive beyond the area that can be covered with brick slips within the open time.

Press the brick slips firmly into the fresh adhesive so that the back of each brick slip is fully covered (100% coverage). Remove excess adhesive from joints as required and smooth the joints immediately with a damp 10 mm brush to obtain an even finish.

If the adhesive starts to skin over or dry, adhesion may be impaired and joint finishing may become difficult. In such cases, remove the affected material and apply fresh adhesive. Do not retemper by adding water.

Note:
After the adhesive has dried, the gap created at corners/returns due to cutting of brick slips should be filled using the dedicated corner compound supplied as part of the order. The compound is made from the same material as the brick slips and helps achieve
a consistent final appearance.

Ensure 100% coverage of the back of each brick slip with adhesive to achieve a strong and durable bond.

Drying:

Drying time depends on temperature, relative humidity and substrate conditions.
Under typical conditions, drying may range from approx. 2 hours (joint finish)
to approx. 48 hours (beneath the cladding).
At lower temperatures, drying of the adhesive beneath the brick slips may take
up to 5 days.

Useful hints:
Avoid application in direct sunlight or during strong winds. In warm, dry or windy conditions, reduce the working area to prevent premature skinning.
After completion of work, close the container tightly. Clean tools thoroughly with water immediately after use.
During application and drying, the temperature must not fall below +5 °C.

Q&A

Terrix® AD-BR is a ready-to-use, water-based dispersion adhesive designed for both fixing and pointing Terrix® brick slips in the TERRIX® BES Brick Effect System. The selected product colour also determines the final joint colour.

The product is intended for sound, dry and properly prepared substrates, including concrete, cement and cement-lime renders, gypsum plasters, plasterboard, cement boards and OSB, subject to the system specification.

Terrix® AD-BR should be mixed thoroughly before use and applied with a 4 × 4 mm notched trowel at an approximate coat thickness of 1.5–2.0 mm. The adhesive should be applied evenly, and each brick slip must be pressed firmly into the fresh material to ensure 100% coverage on the back.

Drying time depends on temperature, humidity and substrate conditions. Under typical conditions, drying may take from around 2 hours for the joint finish to around 48 hours beneath the cladding. At lower temperatures, drying beneath the brick slips may take up to 5 days.

Terrix® AD-BR is based on a water-based polymer dispersion, with an approximate consumption of 2.3–2.5 kg/m². It is supplied in 20 kg plastic buckets and should be stored in the original, tightly sealed packaging in a cool, dry place, protected from frost and direct sunlight. Its shelf life is 12 months from the date of manufacture, provided the recommended storage conditions are observed.
